Pemberley SAFETY

In order for us to conduct the riding school activities safely and on time, we must insist that each visitor and rider follow the simple rules of the barn. As a working barn and riding facility, we take safety as a top priority. There is always an unexpected event that may occur, so all riders and individuals on the property must make themselves aware of their surroundings at all times and ensure their own safety.

What to Wear (it's a safety thing)
  • All riders while on the property MUST WEAR AN ASTM APPROVED RIDING HELMET, NO EXCEPTIONS. This includes adult riders.
  • All riders must wear a safety vest while riding. Vests and helmets are provided, although you can use your own if equipment has not expired and is approved for equestrian use.
  • Riders must wear long pants (no shorts, capris or skirts) and proper shoes or boots with a heel (no running shoes or slip-ons). Riders will not be allowed to ride if dressed inappropriately.
  • We ride in all weather — dress appropriately. No scarves. Safety vests may need to be worn under bigger jackets.
Pemberley Expectations
  • 1. You are assigned a lesson day and time. Arrive early (no more than 10 minutes unless Barn Ratting) to allow time to get your helmet and vest on. Advanced riders, arrive early enough to catch and tack your horse.
  • 2. Horses are chosen by your coach for you to ride during your lesson. You do not get to choose your horse. Your coach will know which horse best suits the rider's skill and presence. Expect your lesson horse may change from lesson to lesson, and a horse may not be available any given day. Coaches consider rider preference but will never promise — please don't expect it.
  • 3. You are responsible to return your vest and helmet to the equipment room after your lesson in the same condition it was taken. If you 'forget' to return or damage it, you may be invoiced a damage/failure-to-return fee ($50–$100).
  • 4. No Bullys at Pemberley. We expect all riders to show each other, staff and coaches kindness and respect. Anyone found to be mean, rude or aggressive toward another member of our Pemberley Community will face action, up to suspension of lessons or removal from the program.
  • 5. Pictures, Videos and Social Media: take only pictures/videos of your own child; be mindful of others in your lesson as not everyone can be shown publicly for safety reasons. Pemberley wants riders to share their love of horses in a positive way; if any negative issue results from social media use, a full or partial ban may be implemented.
  • 6. All riders under 16 must have a parent or guardian present. Only riders enrolled in a camp or the Barn Rat Program may be left without an adult.
  • 7. All Pemberley horses are loved like family. Their feed, vet care, farrier, stalls and more are addressed above minimum standard. If you're new to horses and don't understand something you see or hear, ask a coach.
Cancellations
  • 1. A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required from the student/parent to cancel a lesson. Cancelling with less than 24 hours still requires payment, as staff and horses are assigned and ready.
  • 2. A 'No Show' is failing to show up for your scheduled lesson without notice. Failing to show results in a $35 fee payable by the start of your next lesson.
  • 3. 'No Shows' can result in being permanently pulled from your lesson time.
  • 4. Cancellations by Pemberley due to staffing, weather or safety will be provided with as much notice as possible — though very little notice is likely. Please check our Facebook page prior to your lesson time for updates.
  • 5. No make-up lessons will be provided for cancellations.
